| Starting or extending your family is an exciting process
and we wish to offer you both support and information during
this important time of your life! Breastfeeding class
assists you and your partner with that important decision of how
to feed your baby. Patients often ask if it is necessary to
bring
a support person with them to class. Your support person will be a second set of
ears for all the information shared as well as trained in
position and latch which is invaluable when learning the art
of breastfeeding after you deliver. This person can be a very
significant part of making breastfeeding successful.
Our group Breastfeeding class is a Power Point presentation
and covers the 'whys' as well as
the 'hows' of
successful breastfeeding your baby and includes the pros and cons of all feeding
choices. The class also covers a plan to get
breastfeeding started off right in the hospital
which is a critical first step to success! You will
also obtain knowledge of when and where to seek ongoing
support if needed after you deliver.
We recommend that you register for a class that will be
completed by AT LEAST 3 - 8 weeks before your due date.
Group Class is taught by an experienced professional, is 3 ½ hours and taught one Saturday a month.
The class is held at The Women's Healthcare Group's (WHCG)
Overland Park office and is available to anyone, not just
patients of WHCG. The fee is $55 per couple.
Early registration is strongly encouraged because
classes fill up quickly on a first come, first served basis.
Payment holds your place in class. Once you have sent your registration and payment a
confirmation will be sent to you.
PRIVATE classes are available by appointment.
This instruction time is approximately 1 - 1.5 hours and is
spent going over the basic necessities of getting off to a
successful start for a promising breastfeeding future.
This is not a powerpoint presentation. The fee is $75
per couple.
"I
just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your class
today. I have probably had more anxiety about breastfeeding
than any other aspect of pregnancy, labor and childrearing.
I really wanted all week not to attend the class today but I
ended up making myself and am so glad I did. I think that
your class is probably the most worthwhile thing that I have
done my whole pregnancy in preparation for baby. I am still
anxious about breastfeeding but now feel like I have the
tools to make it to my 3-month goal (and maybe more! we'll
see...). Also, your presentation was perhaps the only one
I've ever seen to make an excellent and economic use of
PowerPoint! So thank you for a morning well-spent." - Erin
